Located on the peaceful shores of Lake Dunstan in Central Otago, Pure Organic’s cherry orchard set down roots in 2020. Spanning 11 hectares, the orchard produces six premium cherry varieties, all grown using sustainable and organic farming practices. Our cherries are known for their exceptional flavour, vibrant colour, and juiciness, making every bite a sweet delight.
Samba
The Samba cherry is a dark red fruit known for its impressive size and juiciness. This variety ripens early in the season, making it one of the first to be harvested in early December. With its rich, bold flavor and luscious texture, Samba cherries are a favorite for those seeking a robust, sweet taste. These cherries are perfect for fresh eating or incorporating into desserts that need a burst of flavor.
Santina
The Santina cherry, typically ready by mid-December, is a sweet, medium-sized fruit with a distinctive glossy black exterior. Known for its light yet juicy flavor, Santina cherries are often praised for their balanced sweetness and slightly tart undertone, making them ideal for both snacking and baking. Their firm texture and bright color add a touch of elegance to any fruit platter.
Rainier
Rainier cherries are among the most prized, both for their exceptional sweetness and striking appearance. Unlike other varieties, Rainiers are yellow with a red blush, making them stand out visually. These cherries, ready for harvest by mid-December, are incredibly juicy and offer a honey-like flavor that sets them apart. Rainier’s are delicate, and their limited availability makes them a rare treat during the cherry season. They're perfect for gifts or adding a gourmet touch to festive dishes.
Sweetheart
As their name suggests, Sweetheart cherries are heart-shaped and bursting with sweetness. Ready in early January, these cherries have a firm texture and deep red color, making them a popular choice for those who prefer a cherry with a more intense, concentrated flavor. Sweethearts are versatile and can be enjoyed fresh, used in jams, or featured in fruit salads for a festive pop of color.
Staccato
The Staccato cherry is one of the latest varieties to ripen, becoming available from mid-January. Known for its large size, firm skin, and glossy appearance, the Staccato offers a delightful crunch on the outside with a juicy, sweet interior. The balance of firmness and sweetness makes it a standout among late-season cherries, perfect for enjoying fresh or as a centerpiece in summer desserts.
Lapin
Lapin cherries are a celebratory fruit, often ripening just in time for the new year. Large and firm, these cherries are packed with flavor and are known for their impressive size and deep red color. Ripening towards the end of December, Lapins are sweet, juicy, and perfect for sharing with family and friends during festive gatherings. Their firm texture makes them ideal for fresh eating, cooking, or even freezing to enjoy later in the year.
